LONGTIME PADDLERS AND FISHERMEN

We’ve been paddling for twenty-two years, and every time you get on the river, you remember that it’s the river that carries us. It gives us the water to drink for energy, it carries fish to feed us. It does everything for us.

There’s no difference when you pass from British Columbia into Alaska. The fish don’t care, the moose don’t care, nobody really cares. And in many ways, that’s the most basic quality of humans, the relationship with the water. We need it. We can’t go very long without it, that’s for sure. And it’s just utterly amazing that no matter where you go, it’s the water that carries you. It’s the water that is life.
